Dancing has always been associated with worship. King David danced in his very brief loincloth like underwear and was so exposed in doing so that his wife was offended that the maidens of Jerusalem had seen too much of a good thing. Salome, not named in the Bible but identified historically, danced before Herod and John the Baptist lost his head. And when the Children of Israel crossed the Red Sea and the Lord destroyed the Egyptians in the waters, Moses’ sister Mariam led the women in a dance of jubilation before the Lord.
Miriam the prophetess, Aaron’s sister, took the timbrel in her hand, and all the women went out after her with timbrels and with dancing. Miriam answered them, “Sing to the Lord, for He is highly exalted; The horse and his rider He has hurled into the sea.” Exodus 15:20-21
Not only is dance a beautiful way of worshipping the Lord, the athleticism and control brings forth the beauty of the young women who dance. Their bodies are slim, well defined, and a wonder to behold. And these days dancers wear delightful apparel that only adds to the joy.
