• Nudity, Erotica and Porn

Most of this website is devoted to nudity and erotica. The point has been well made that erotica is not porn. But, since some who are reading this many not yet have visited those pages, let's take a quick look at what the Word of God has to say.

When most people think about masturbation they also think about porn. And we all recognize the following facts.

    Porn.

    Porn is bad.

    Porn is very bad.

    Porn is always very bad.

Porn depicts the naked female form in a way that diminishes the beauty and defiles the user. It does the same thing to sexuality and the act of making love. It is hard for me to understand how such degradation could even stimulate anyone to a state of arousal.

Nudity on the other hand is a totally different matter. Nudity can be revealed in a way that glorifies God, elevates the heart and mind, and stimulates the body to sexual arousal.

Erotica shows the depiction of sexuality, but it does the same thing. It expresses the beauty of marital lovemaking and provides pleasant and sinless sexual stimulation.

Nudity and Erotica are not Porn

The Song of Solomon is written
in the same form as all
ancient erotica, and it is clearly
    meant to encourage arousal.

It can be confusing because, sadly, many equate nudity and erotica with porn. Yes, porn uses and defiles both nudity and sexual behavior, but not all nudity and sexual imagery is porn. If it were, the Bible would be a pornographic book. The Song of Solomon paints vivid word pictures of male and female nudity and detailed, stimulating, and graphic scenes of lovemaking between a husband and wife. There is no sordidness, and no vulgarity, but there is sex and a lot of it. We cannot be consistent with scripture and condemn nudity and erotica. God does not condemn it, and neither can we. The Song of Solomon is written in the same form as all ancient erotica, and it is clearly meant to encourage arousal. It is a truly marvelous book.

    Decision

This brings us to point of decision. We know from the Bible that masturbation is not wrong. We also know that nudity and erotica are sanctified by having been included in the Word of God. This then begs the question; can the two be brought together? Can a Christian use nudity and erotica as an aid to masturbation?

    Wet Dream.

While it may not be wise for some I suggest that many of us can use nudity and/or erotica - carefully, and within godly parameters. A man can enjoy the sight of a naked woman and use the sexual stimulation he feels as an aid to masturbation. If he feels so inclined and it does not violate his conscience, he can do the same with erotica. If his sole purpose is to enhance and assist his own pleasure, and he has no desire to commit sin with the person’s whose form he finds stimulating, his actions are sanctified.

    Images and Orgasms

Some will disagree, strongly. They will think I have gone off the deep end. They not only believe masturbation is wrong, they believe using nudity and erotica is even more wrong. They would tell you that having an orgasm while enjoying an image is sinful. Let God take care of it, eventually, through a nocturnal emission, a wet dream.

God so clearly designed that images
wouls assist our orgasms that when
    we deny ourselves that pleasure
He gives it to us anyway!

That sounds all well and good, but not only is it impractical, it is unnecessary. God so clearly designed that images would assist our orgasms that when we deny ourselves that pleasure He gives it to us anyway! Any man who has had one of those much desired wet dreams will tell you he probably climaxed while dreaming of a sexual encounter. And if God sees fit to do this when we are asleep, I believe it is ok for us to do it when we are awake.

Porn, no. Nudity and erotica, yes!

    Feel free to disagree.

Not everyone will feel this liberty is one with which they are at all comfortable. There is no condemnation here. Let your actions be consistent with what you believe to be the revealed will of God.
