Christians Enjoying Nudity and Erotica | Whatsoever is Pure and Lovely | NSFW 18+
  • Whatsoever is Pure and Lovely

Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things. Philippians 4:8 (NASB)

It is quite amazing to me that this verse should be used over and over again, especially in Christian literature written for men, to describe female beauty, and nudity, and erotica as something that is not honorable, or right to enjoy, or pure, or lovely to look at, or reputable, or excellent, or praise worthy. We are told to not dwell on the beauty of the human form, especially that of the female gender, because to do so is somehow defiling.

    Philippians 4.8.

How strange; and how sad! This marvelous thing that God made is not pure or lovely? Enjoying the view is disreputable? From whence do such ideas come anyway?

When Adam and Eve were in the Garden of Eden they were the epitome of purity. It was lovely that they would walk through the garden with the sunlight warming their bodies and the breeze caressing their bums, and Adams penis and balls, and Eve’s breasts. Surely this utopian scene is worthy of praise. Could there be a more lovely sight than a naked woman, or a naked man, especially out in the splendor of God’s creation?

And when they two come together in romantic embrace, an embrace so vividly and passionately described in the Song of Solomon, could there be anything anymore pure and lovely? I think not.

Let’s not allow ourselves to be berated for our natural God given inclination to look and enjoy. Let’s not let well meaning writers, preachers, and Bible teachers restrict our liberty in Christ by negatively misapplying Philippians 4:8 to the simple enjoyment of nudity and even erotica. These things seemed good in the eyes of God. Surely it is right and just for them to seem good in our eyes as well.
